Formate Technical Manual, Part A: Chemical and Physical Properties
Section A10: Water Absorption and Desorption

Concentrated formate brines are hygroscopic and will therefore absorb water from the atmosphere when left in an open container over time. At higher temperatures, however, the evaporation process will be more significant and water will be desorbed from the brine. This chapter of the manual presents measured data for water absorption and desorption in the two high-density brines cesium formate and zinc bromide as a function of temperature. The effect of agitation was studied and it was found that an agitated fluid will absorb / desorb water faster than a static fluid.
