Formate Technical Manual, Part A: Chemical and Physical Properties
Section A2 Brine Density and PVT Data
This section of the manual presents mixing tables for sodium, potassium, and cesium formate single-salt brines and powders along with blending tables for cesium and potassium formate brines. Measured PVT data for single-salt potassium formate brines in the full density range up to 1.57 s.g. / 13.1 ppg and cesium / potassium formate brine blends in the density range 1.57 s.g. / 13.1 ppg to 2.29 s.g. / 19.1 ppg are tabulated. These tables contain measured density, compressibility, and thermal expansion coefficient as a function of temperature and pressure. A model is presented that can convert the surface density at any temperature to the equivalent density of the brine at standard conditions. This model has been incorporated into a custom-built software package called DensiCalc, which can also calculate the average density of the fluid in the wellbore and the hydrostatic pressure thus generated for any given cesium / potassium formate brine.
